Writer/Director

Carlton Daniel Jr. is a writer-director born in Cleveland, OH. Grounded in the mundane and extraordinary experiences of Black and LGBTQIA American life, Daniel’s body of work explores themes of coming-of-age, be/longing, and love. Working across genres of drama, romance, and horror, their award-winning directorial debut ‘Monogamish’ (2017) screened at over 20 festivals internationally, premiering at Outfest LA. Daniel’s recent short ‘Homegoing’ (2021) screened at Academy and BAFTA-qualifying film festivals including, American Black Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, Palm Springs International ShortFest, and Outfest LA. Daniel is currently developing a feature-length version of ‘Homegoing’ which was selected for the Outfest Screenwriting Lab (2020) and Tribeca Film Festival’s Untold Stories (2021). Daniel was a semifinalist for the New Voices Filmmaker Grant at NewFest (2023) and a semifinalist for AFI Conservatory’s DWW+ Program (2024). They most recently wrote and directed an episode of 20th Digital Studio’s horror anthology series ‘Bite Size Halloween’ which premiered at Urbanworld Film Festival and is streaming now on Hulu. Daniel is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor at Syracuse University.
